The Schoolhouse Cottages
Luxury Holiday Rental

ABOUT
Experience the difference of a holiday rental in a historic and beautiful property, complete with the amenities you deserve. The teacher's cottage building dates back to medieval times where the settlement was originally established, with deeds dating back to 1836, which makes this a one-of-a-kind residence. The teacher's cottage was decommissioned and renovated alongside the schoolhouse in 1953. Be sure to check out our history page to learn about the cottages historic past. The Schoolhouse Cottage and The Old Schoolhouse sit on the same site. The Old Schoolhouse is where we live (Lesley and Steve). We live next door to the Schoolhouse Cottage, but we are detached and although the cottage shares the same driveway, it has it's own private garden and is a separate building on the grounds. With such a stunning location, we are so lucky to call this natural landscape our home. And are so lucky to be able to share it. Ask us about local places to visit, great walks nearby or super places to eat. We are passionate about the area and have a wealth of knowledge we love to share!
Love, Lesley
We regret that due to guest allergies we regrettably do not allow pets to stay at our accommodation. We do have some good recommendations for a local pet sitting service.

THINGS TO DO
Here are some of my personal favourites. Please check out my blog and social media for many more great places to explore.
Ghost Tour
Cheating slightly, as this is in Edinburgh. Take a walk up the Royal Mile and sign up for one of the best ghost tours in the world. Alternatively, Book a Tour at Mary Kings Close, If you are brave enough!
Cultural Sites
Do not miss a trip to Falkland Palace and the town of Falkland where Outlander was filmed. (Inverness). Stop by Pillars of Hercules Farms shop for some organic produce and enjoy a coffee and cake in their cafe. My personal favourite is their homemade soup. Vegan friendly.
For The Kids
Take a memorable trip to the Scottish Deer Centre or Craigtoun Country Park where the kids can have some fun and let of some steam.
Leisure Activities
Take a walk along West Sands Beach in St. Andrews. You won't want to miss this one. Stop buy Janetta's Gelateria on 31 South St, St Andrews KY16 9QR, United Kingdom. My recommendation is the tablet ice-cream.
Best Coffee
This is a hard choice for me, as there are so many good choices. Muddy Boots in Balmalcom is my favourite only because there is a short walk that you can take from the Schoolhouse through some woods filled with bluebells. They also have a farm shop and somewhere for the kids to play.
Fife Coastal Route
There is a coastal path that winds around the entirety of the Fife coast. There are many amazing places and quaint fishing villages with unbeatable scenery to while away the afternoon. Stop in at East Pier in St Monans for breathtaking Ocean Views or the Anstruther Fish Bar for the best fish and chips. Bring your appetite and patience as there might be queues. Tuesdays at lunch are the quietest times. You're welcome.

GUEST REVIEW

This was my first time staying in a property like this and it didn’t disappoint. The cottage is so peaceful and a perfect place to relax and unwind. The wood fire was absolutely amazing as well especially in a cold winter night. The hosts were 10/10, will be back! Jordan.
